Voice Therapy & Swallowing Rehabilitation
Cathy Allen is a Speech-Language Therapist who specialises in voice, swallowing, and upper airway disorders. She works across both the public and private sectors, supporting patients in hospital and clinic settings. Cathy works closely with our specialists, and especially with Dr Vokes, Laryngologist.
Cathy's areas of expertise include voice therapy, swallowing rehabilitation, and the management of upper airway disorders such as chronic cough and inducible laryngeal obstruction (ILO).
Cathy is also highly experienced in head and neck cancer care. She supports patients throughout the treatment pathway, from preparation for surgery, through recovery after operations, and during chemotherapy or chemoradiation. She also provides ongoing rehabilitation and support for people who have had a laryngectomy, helping them adjust and restore communication and swallowing function.
Cathy is trained in specialist procedures including Videofluoroscopic Swallowing Study (VFSS), Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES), surgical voice restoration, and tracheostomy management.
She accepts referrals from GPs, ENTs, and respiratory physicians — but if you are not under one of these services, please get in touch to discuss whether an appointment is appropriate.
Cathy is a member of the New Zealand Speech-language Therapists’ Association and is committed to providing evidence-based, patient-centred care. With over 12 years of experience in New Zealand, Australia, and the UK, she is dedicated to helping patients improve their voice, breathing, and swallowing for a better quality of life.
